The Bigger Picture

: Cornerhouse, working in partnership with BBC and Manchester City Council, established The Bigger Picture to exhibit selections of the best moving image work being produced today, on the Big Screen situated in Exchange Square, Manchester. The programme offers a platform for artists’ film & video, short films, and artistic community moving image.

Award: Eight cutting edge shorts will be executive produced by B3 media through the scheme.
Further Information
:  As a strategic partner to the UK Film Council's Digital Shorts Scheme and with co-funding from the Arts Council England, B3 media are looking for up to 8 ethnically diverse filmmaking teams to produce a cutting edge short film, shot and edited digitally.

Bridging The Gap: Short Documentary Competition

Award: 12 proposals will be selected for a development period and the filmmakers will attend a series of training workshops and documentary masterclasses based in Edinburgh.
Further Information
:  Bridging the Gap is the only documentary talent initiative for cinema in the UK offering training linked to production.

British Short Screenplay Competition

Award: Screenplay produced by Kaos Film

: Open to all nationalities.  Screenplay must be no longer than five minutes.

Cinema Extreme
Deadline: September
Award: Production of film.
Further Information
: Cinema Extreme was created in 2002 by the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund and FilmFour to encourage and develop filmmakers with a distinctive directorial voice and cinematic flair. The Cinema Extreme programme should provide filmmakers with a level of experience and expertise so that the next step in their careers will be the making of their first feature film.

CobraVision Script Competition

Award: £3000 + Production of Film.

: The Make Your Mark campaign aims to encourage young people to be more enterprising. This competition aims to inspire them to make their ideas happen through film.

Five Minutes of Fear

Award: The short-listed films will be screened at the Cube cinema Bristol
Further Information: Films must be no longer than five minutes in duration and must fit into
the horror genre.  Along with prizes for Best Film, Most Shocking Film and an Audience Award, winners will have their work entered into subsequent film festivals and competitions around the country.

Mini Masterpieces

Nokia Shorts

: Each entry must be no longer than 15 seconds. Examples of what can be achieved in 15 seconds can be viewed on this website. The 15-second limit applies only to the body of the film

The Orange North Star Film Award
Deadline: October
Award: £40.000 (max) budget.
Further Information
: The Award is targeted at experienced filmmakers resident in the UK who have yet to make their first feature film. If you have made either two short films or one-factual/drama television programmes of at least 30 minutes duration you are eligible to apply.

Sky One Development Prize
Deadline: October
Award: The winning pitch will receive £5,000 to research and develop the series for possible commission.
Further Information: To enter, production companies should submit a proposal to SkyOne directly. Proposals must be for original factual entertainment series ideas

Turner Classic Shorts Film Competition

Award: £10 000.

More info: The 'V' 48HOURS - Furious Filmmaking is the Southern Hemisphere's largest filmmaking challenge and all you have to do is create an entire short film from scratch in less than 48 hours - or die trying.
