Working in a team of dedicated staff, you will be responsible for reviewing proposals for grant aided conservation and agreeing the most appropriate solutions to ensure the future of cherished historic buildings.  Is a qualified architect or surveyor, you must be able to demonstrate knowledge of English architectural history, building construction and current conservation practice and legislation. You should either possess, or be able to attain shortly after appointment, accreditation in building conservation. You will need to write clear and concise reports, advise on standards and specifications, assess cost estimates and monitor work in progress to ensure adequate standards are achieved. Knowledge is the prerequisite for caring successfully for England's historic environment. It enriches enjoyment and underpins the process of change. In recognition of this, English Heritage undertakes and facilitates exemplary research and this is an exciting opportunity to get involved in our historic built environment research programmes.  As either a Senior Investigator or an Investigator, you will play a key role in a small, busy team, researching and analysing historic buildings and areas. You will provide authoritative professional and specialist advice in the fields of architectural history and building and areas analysis, and assist with training and outreach programmes. You will also contribute to the development of new research projects that support the needs of the historic environment. Although you are primarily based in our Cambridge office, you will be required to travel widely, which will include staying overnight.
You should have a good degree or post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in history, architectural history, buildings archaeology or a related discipline, and a good record of academic publication. You will have a broad knowledge of architectural history with a specialism in one or more areas, as well as being accomplished in analysing buildings and areas and in undertaking primary research. Good team working and communication skills are essential.

Each year it hosts more than 350 performances and events including the BBC Proms, other classical music, rock and pop concerts, opera, musicals, ballet, circus, occasional sport, award ceremonies, conferences and banquets.  As a key member of the small Directorate reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Events will be responsible for nurturing and developing relationships with existing and potential event promoters and commercial partners, and will oversee the functions involved in selecting, contracting and supporting the diverse range of events that make up the Hall's performance calendar and associated programme of education projects. These events provide the Hall's principal source of operating income and your brief will be to broaden and refresh the programme and to develop the Hall's brand so that it reaches a wider audience both in the UK and internationally.  The role calls for a combination of commercial acumen, strong networking and negotiating skills and the creativity to identify and develop opportunities for new programming ideas. The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager of teams who has worked at a senior level in the arts, entertainment or media and has an understanding of programming or managing large-scale events.
