International
Internationally the creativity, culture, arts and health field is under huge and varied. The links we make here are to a number of well known projects and we hope that in updates of these pages, we will be able to share a broader international and UK range of organisations.  At this time, you can submit details of your organisation by sending us an email – click here to do this.

 

Creative Exchange

Creative Exchange is a charity and global network dedicated to the social role of arts and culture.We connect people, provide information and raise awareness of how arts and culture contribute tointernational development and social change (UK registered charity no 1096765).

EUROPA

Since its inclusion in the Treaty on the European Union, cultural cooperation has become a new community competency. The Culture site is aimed mainly at European  cultural operators who want to set up cooperation projects with other European partners. Information on the numerous other EU policies for the promotion of culture is available on the European Culture Portal.

 

HAI (Hospital Audiences, Inc.) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1969 by Michael Jon
Spencer to provide access to the arts to culturally isolated New Yorkers. HAI service recipients include people with mental and physical disabilities, mentally retarded/ developmentally disabled persons, bed-confined/ wheelchair-users, visually and hearing-impaired individuals, the homeless, the frail elderly, youth at risk, participants in substance abuse programs, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals in correctional facilities.

 


The Society for the Arts in Healthcare (SAH) is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation in Washington, DC.  Founded in 1991, the Society for the Arts in Healthcare is dedicated to
promoting the incorporation of the arts as an integral component of healthcare

Soul City

Soul City is a dynamic and innovative multi-media health promotion and social change project. Through drama and entertainment Soul City reaches more than 16 million South Africans.

Transatlantic Research Network on Mental Health and the Arts (TRAMHA)

TRAMHA is an international research and development network devised to foster and develop nterdisciplinary dialogues, research and exchange on creativity and mental health. The network was founded at the Centre for Health Research and Practice Development (CHRPD) within the Faculty of Health and Social Care at St Martin’s College in November 2005.

War Child International

War Child International is a network of independent organisations, working across the world to help children affected by war. Not explicitly an arts and health organisation, nevertheless, its’ work often draws on creativity, culture and the arts to facilitate its’ agenda.

In the UK at the moment there are a number of organisations that have made valuable contributions to this field of practice and research; and whilst the following links aren’t by any means exhaustive, they do offer. It is also worth noting that several regions in the UK have sub-regional arts and health networks, some of which are listed here:

Arts Councils

For England, there is Arts Council England, which also has an office in each of the nine English regions: East / East Midlands / London / North East / North West / South East / South West / West Midlands / Yorkshire

Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have their own Arts Council:

Artfull 
What is artfull? artfull is a national programme established to develop, promote and map the arts and the role they play in improving the mental health and well-being of people living in  Scotland. It is a joint initiative developed by the Scottish Government’s National Programme for Improving Mental Health and Well-being and the Scottish Arts Council. 
 
Arts for Health

Arts for Health is an international centre offering advice and consultancy for creative planning, funding and commissioning of arts and cultural projects in healthcare services. With a long-established role in the international arts and health field and it is leading research around the impact of the arts on public health through it's Invest to Save: Arts in Health programme.

ARTLINK

Artlink Central aims to enable a wide range of marginalised and special needs groups to access high quality arts projects in central Scotland.

Arts for Health Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

Arts For Health Cornwall & Isles Of Scilly is the UK's only countywide arts and health organisation. We exist to advocate for the role of creativity in improving health and well-being and to develop and facilitate specific projects to deliver health improvement.

Arts and Humanities Research Council

The Arts and Humanities Research Council supports research within a huge subject domain from traditional humanities subjects, such as history, modern languages and English literature, to the creative and performing arts. The AHRC funds research and postgraduate study within the UK's higher education institutions. In addition, on behalf of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, it provides funding for museums, galleries and collections that are based in, or attached to, higher education institutions in England.

British Association of Art Therapists

The British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) provide details of news and events, careers and training, and useful courses.

British Council: Arts

Arts Group is made up of around 100 staff in the UK, whose job it is to search for the best UK
artists and arts professionals to tour or work overseas, and arts managers that are situated in each country, who programme the work that will be right for their countries audience and also meets the British Council's objectives.

Bromley by Bow Centre

The country’s first Healthy Living Centre, where artists and GPs work side by side to improve the health of the local community.

CAHHM : Centre for Arts and Humanities in Health and Medicine

The Centre for Arts and Humanities in Health and Medicine aim is to pursue interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives that will explore and extend the relationship between the humanities, the arts and medical and healthcare practice.

 
The Creative Communities Team at Staffordshire University, is made up of a variety of staff with specialist skills in community development and community regeneration.  We work across disciplinary boundaries and often work in partnership with other organisations. We offer a range of accredited courses of varying lengths with flexible learning approaches and
options, some delivered in the University and some in local communities.

 

 
Culture Northwest is a thinking, networking and advocacy organisation. We work strategically through collaboration to champion the role of culture across the region. Our remit is to build and drive the Regional Cultural Strategy. To do this we work with Tourism, Sport and Physical Activity, the Creative Industries, Arts, Heritage, Museums, Libraries and Archives.  
 
Exeter Healthcare Arts

The EHCA has three main strands:

·  Exhibiting artists’ work in public and clinical areas within hospitals

·  Environmental schemes in public and clinical areas within hospitals

·  Live arts events for the public at large and within the wards of  hospitals 
 
 
The Foundation for Community Dance is the national development agency and industry lead body for community dance.
 
 
Full Circle Arts are a disability arts development agency.  The website includes news items, advice on funding and disability equality and links to other sites

Greater Manchester Arts and Health Network

Healing Arts Isle of Wight
 
Healing Arts Isle of Wight runs a comprehensive arts programme at St Mary’s Hospital and across the islands health services as a whole.

LIME

Across Manchester LIME works with the belief that the arts have a key role to play in the health of mind, body and spirit of individuals and their communities. Cultural development within health settings through artistic interaction is playing an increasingly strong role in healthcare practice.

Live Music Now

Live Music Now aims to promote the enjoyment and experience of live music amongst people who would not normally have access to it and to assist gifted young professional musicians at the outset of their careers.

 
London Arts in Health Forum (LAHF)

London Arts and Health Forum (LAHF) is a London-based network that develops links between the arts and health sectors. The forum shares expertise and ideas to promote knowledge, encourage best practice and inspire innovation. It runs quarterly networking meetings, produces a newsletter and provides advice and support for arts and health projects.

Mental Health Foundation
The site is run by the Mental Health Foundation the leading UK charity working in mental health and learning disabilities.

Mind the Gap

Formed in 1988, Mind the Gap has become the largest disability related theatre company outside of London.

Music In Hospitals

Music in Hospitals is a registered charity, established in 1948, which presents live concerts throughout the UK for people of all ages in hospitals, hospices, care homes, day care centres and special needs schools.

National Disability Arts Forum

NDAF aims to make the arts more accessible for disabled people and to create equality of opportunity for disabled people in all aspects of the arts.

National Network for Arts in Health

The network aims to advocate the benefits of arts in healthcare, and enable practitioners to network and share information on a national basis. It should be noted that this organisation is currently dormant, awaiting the outcome of a consultation on its’ reconfiguration. 

Paintings in Hospitals

PIH is a registered charity providing works of art on loan to hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities to enhance the healing environment for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.

Qube

Qube is a rural arts and health focused centre located in Shropshire. It is a fully accessible creative centre which acts as a forum for ideas, an exhibition space for new work, a gallery for emerging and established artists and a link to other centres of arts learning and practice.

Royal Northern College of Music

A European Music and Health Exchange project bringing together partners from Paris, the UK and Ireland

Sanity Fair

Promotes and explores the positive aspects of mental health.  Sanity Fair is an annual celebratory arts event taking place in Hanley, Stoke on Trent.

SciArt

Encourages collaboration between the arts and sciences.

Shape

Shape a national charity which opens up access to the arts, enabling greater participation by disabled and older people.

Sound Sense

Sound Sense is the UK development for community music and, as such, has a great interest in the field of arts and health, especially, but not confined to, the practice of community arts in health care settings. Sound Sense  is a managing partner of Suffolk Arts and Health Forum and both can be contacted at abigail.cheverst@soundsense.org

TONIC

Tonic is an arts in health programme which uses the arts for the benefit of patients and staff in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
 
Visiting Arts
Visiting Arts purpose is to strengthen inter-cultural understanding through the arts. Visiting Arts provides information and intelligence in order to strengthen  inter-cultural dialogue; and creates opportunities to experience inter-cultural exploration through  performances, exhibitions, and by initiating and promoting collaborations. Vital Arts

Vital Arts delivers a programme of integrated arts projects for the comfort, healing and wellbeing of patients, staff and the wider hospital community of Barts and The London NHS Trust.

Voluntary Arts Network (VAN)

VAN aims to promote participation in the arts and crafts, recognising that they are a key part of our culture and that they are vital to our health, social and economic development
